A hand held meter, a good imagination and to get out there and start burning film to get used to the camera/cameras and start learning photography.

Baby steps....learn the basics.
I would suggest you go to your local Community college and find a basic/beginers photography class.
There you will learn about film speed, f-stops, depth of field, shutter speeds, focal length, etc....etc.
