David Mecey served for over two decades as staff photographer and contributing photographer to Playboy, where he found 20 Playmates of the Month, shot 6 gatefolds (two were published), and worked on multiple pictorials. He has shot over 30 magazine covers for various publications as well as photographed a number of the famous and almost famous.
"One of my favorites is the cover for AMERICAN Photo magazine that I did of Playboy photographer, Pompeo Posar. I had only been at Playboy a short time when that chance came along. And to be called upon to photograph the man who had helped define the Playboy centerfold was well, amazing.
And being a staffer at Playboy allowed me the chance to try out new ideas for their covers in-house. And although they were rarely ever considered for the U.S. edition, a number of them did end up on several of Playboy's foreign editions. Which during my tenure in Chicago numbered around 16 from all around the world.
But I've also shot covers for a number of other magazines over the years with my latest being a photograph of actress Jaime Bergman, for Rangefinder."---David Mecey
